Steyns Ford Cobra Conversion | Reported 1 of 63 | Restored
This is not the Cortina you parked outside school in the 80s. This is the Cobra Cortina collectors wait for. A South African performance Ford with proper period flavour, Steyns Ford Cobra conversion details, 120kW quoted output, and the kind of local history that matters more every year.
Finished in bright yellow over black, this 1982 Cortina carries the full Cobra XR6 look with black lower body treatment, Cobra badging, rear louvre, front spotlights, period-style interior, and John Brown wheels. It has a presence without needing to shout. It looks exactly like the kind of car that would have ruled Pretoria streets in the early 80s.
Under the bonnet sits the Ford V6 with the Steyns Ford Cobra conversion theme, supported by period documentation showing the Holley four-barrel conversion kit, air filter, camshaft, inlet manifold, exhaust branches and aluminium tappet covers. Period material quotes the Cobra conversion at 120kW, giving this car the performance story collectors want.
The car has been restored, presents well, and everything is reported to be working. The engine bay is clean, the boot is tidy, the interior presents honestly, and the car still carries the small details that make it interesting: Steyns Ford branding, Cobra conversion identifiers, period paperwork, and that unmistakable South African Ford character.
This car should appeal to the serious Ford collector who already understands the difference between a normal Cortina, a nice XR6, and a proper South African period conversion car. Standard cars still come up. Cars with this story, this look, this documentation and this survival rate are much harder to replace.
